Short Term Child Care
Who We Are
Peace of mind for working parents is what this bilingual program initiated in 1987 is all about. We provide reliable, accessible back up care for children 3 months to 12 years when the child is mildly ill, when regular child care arrangements are interrupted, or when other family emergencies arise. Employers/organizations/unions pay an annual access fee that entitles their employees/members access to the Short Term Child Care Program. Parents who use the services are charged a reasonable user fee, which may be subsidized partially or fully by their employer/union.
Short Term Child Care also provides respite child care programs at Women’s Shelters.
Furthermore, Short Term Child Care provides supports, in both English and French, to licensed child care services that are in need of supply educators and also to potential candidates interested in supplying in child care centres and nursery schools in Ottawa.
The Supply Teachers’ List is an initiative which started as a service offered to child care centres of Andrew Fleck Children’s Services. To support these child care centres and the allocated ratio of children per teacher at all times, a supply teachers’ list has been developed and available to them since September 2011. In Fall 2014, based on a shortage of supply teachers, for the first time, modules for Supply Teachers have been developed and have been offered to prepare interested non ECE individuals to replace child care teachers in licensed child care centres in Ottawa.
What We Do
Short Term Child Care (STCC) offers quality options to best meet your temporary child care needs:
- a STCC caregiver caring for your child/children in your home, workplace or other suitable location (For information on STCC caregivers, visit Benefits for Parents or Benefits for Employers).
We offer flexible child care arrangements to meet the varied working schedules of working parents – days, evenings, overnight and weekends. We offer working parents with an alternative to missing days or even weeks of work due to a lack of temporary child care.
In addition to supporting working parents, trained caregivers also provide weekly early learning and child care sessions at six Women’s Shelters in the City of Ottawa.
We also have a solution to supply educator recruitment, training and deployment for licensed child care programs (click here to learn more)
The Short Term Child Care (STCC) team is made up of Placement Coordinators, a Planner & Information Counsellor, a Team Leader and a Manager. Our team’s principal role is to deliver a high quality supply educator program through the implementation of eSchool Solutions, ongoing training to the child care community and the recruitment of a dedicated database of supply educators.
